The STAR Programme - Effective Treatment For Stress, Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Tension

The STAR programme is the Stress, Tension and Anxiety Reduction programme. It uses a combination of evidence based techniques from hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. It is designed to help you to manage your stress better, to eliminate your unwanted feelings of anxiety or to combat panic attacks.

How Can The STAR Programme Help You?

Stress

Some clients face uncomfortable emotions such as feeling under pressure or anxiety as a result of specific stressful situations. For example workplace stress, bereavement, relationship problems, financial hardship, ill health or bullying can all lead to feeling overwhelmed.

The STAR programme can help you to think more rationally and objectively about your problems. Powerful suggestions in hypnosis can help you feel more optimistic and hopeful about the present and the future.

By learning to understand the causes of stress and anxiety you begin to respond to negative thoughts in a more helpful way.

Generalised Anxiety Disorder

Clients with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) struggle with feelings of fear, worry or dread. Although we all feel anxious from time to time, people with GAD are overwhelmed by feelings of anxiety throughout the day. They find it difficult to control overwhelming emotions and find themselves becoming anxious about a wide range of situations.

The STAR programme will help you to feel more calm throughout your life in general. It will help you to gain a better perspective on your life and the challenges you face. It will teach you to recognise signs of anxiety much earlier so that you can start to relax and approach your life with a much more positive outlook.

Social Anxiety

Clients with social anxiety have an excessive and overwhelming fear of social situations such as meeting new people, public speaking, exam anxiety, attending parties or social gatherings. High levels of anxiety are created as a result of feelings of being judged or evaluated by others. This can lead to feelings of embarrassment, inadequacy or inferiority.

On the STAR programme you will learn how self-compassion allows you to become more gentle with yourself when you don’t meet the standards you’ve set yourself. Through hypnosis you can practice being in any situation feeling confident and calm. Using techniques from CBT you can start to think more rationally about your situation and learn to challenge negative thoughts.

Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are severe and intense feelings of fear that last for between 5- 20 minutes. They can be caused by specific issues or can come on for no apparent reason. They include both physical symptoms, such as shortness of breath, nausea and palpitations, as well as frightening or fearful thoughts.

By teaching you how to relax deeply during the STAR programme your panic attacks will become less severe and more manageable. Using hypnosis, you will learn to understand your panic attacks more clearly so that you are no longer overwhelmed by negative thoughts and feelings. By learning how to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life you no longer get attached to your unhelpful thoughts and emotions.

Performance Anxiety

Whether it is related to sport, work, singing, acting, sex or simply speaking in public, performance anxiety can lead to high levels of anxiety. Worry and rumination can lead a client to perform poorly or to avoid doing something they used to enjoy.

Hypnotherapy can help with performance anxiety by reducing and eliminating unwanted worry and rumination. You can learn to feel comfortable in any situation, develop more realistic expectations and build your confidence.
